What’s on for children in Sopron and surroundings

Sopron welcomes families with children with open arms! Exciting and entertaining experiences are on offer for all age groups! Besides many regularly scheduled programmes, there are also festivals and events specifically for children and youth.

Toddlers can choose one of the playhouses in the town, where they are welcomed by a bouncy castle, slides, interactive activities or a fairy-tale corner.

In summer they are enticed to linger by the children’s pools on the beaches and the well equipped playgrounds.

Joyful, lasting experiences are offered by our petting zoos, where your children can get to know animals up close, which they have perhaps only seen in story books before.

They can have an unforgettable trip on our little sightseeing train or the Nagycenk miniature railway.
Older ones can look for “treasure” in the Mining Museum; but braver children of an enterprising spirit can try out the bobsleigh run, or courses of various difficulties in the adventure park.

For those interested in “science” we recommend the newest facility in our town, where you can visit an interactive exhibition demonstrating the relationships between the forest, wood and man.

You can admire Sopron and its surroundings from our lookout towers, then by way of relaxation you can taste the delicacies produced here – right in the chocolate factory.

We recommend the following schedule to a family with children visiting for a long weekend:

Day 1:

After booking into your accommodation, a visit to the Tourinform office where we provide our Visitors with a map, a schedule of events and prospectuses.

After lunch, a visit to the Ligneum exhibition centre, then a walk in the Lővérek (Lookout tower!)
Braver ones can try out some assault courses in the adventure park.

A pleasant evening stroll to the Fire Tower, where the town shows its evening aspect.

Day 2:

The path runs along the Castle Wall Promenade to Scarbantia (Roman Sopron) archaeology park. From here you can get to know the historic town centre, either by little train or on foot.

The symbol of Sopron, the First Tower is not to be missed! If you’re fit, you can admire the view of the town from the gallery, but the exhibition on the lower level is accessible to all.

In the Goat church, the coronations of long ago and the history of the construction of the church are presented using puppets.
After lunch the Mining Museum close to the Main Square offers children’s programmes, but the bobsleigh run is also enticing for them.

In fine weather we recommend a pleasure trip on Lake Fertő or an excursion to the Eszterházy manor – combined with walk in Fertőszéplak (Railway lamp museum; Country houses).
After an exhausting day it’s good to sit down by the musical fountain and delight in the harmony of water, music and lights.

Day 3:
After breakfast a refreshing plunge from the slide into the pool, but a little relaxation in some playground or playhouse could also be good before travelling home.
